I’ve eaten my weight in bivalves across this city, and I’ll gladly do it again. Williamsburg, though, has a specific kind of magic: you can start with a stormy, garlic-butter-drenched boil at Cap't Loui, then stumble into the polished perfection of Boro Brine, all without losing your buzz.

Oysters here run the gamut from dive-bar happy hour deals at El Pingüino to a frozen espresso martini at OTB that made me question my life choices. I’ve been known to order a seafood tower for one, and I regret nothing.

Whether you want a rooftop skyline at Bar Blondeau or a cozy queer-owned patio at Good Days, the neighborhood delivers. Consider this your permission slip to get messy.

Seasoned, meaty, quick service
Fantastic meal, great service

I walked into Cap't Loui Williamsburg expecting a casual boil, and I left feeling like I’d been personally welcomed into a family seafood ritual. The oysters, plump and briny, arrived slick with garlic butter and a cayenne whisper that made me shiver. The service was quick, almost telepathic, and the meat was seasoned with a confidence that borders on arrogance. I fumbled my gloves, dropped a shrimp, and didn’t care. This is messy, glorious, unpretentious eating. I’m already planning my return, napkin tied around my neck. My only regret? Not ordering double.

Highlights
Perfection in every dish
Tomato-tini and focaccia shine
Date coffee cake unforgettable
Exceptional service throughout

Boro Brine is where I go to feel like I’ve made a small, wise decision. Everything on the table arrived as if it had been rehearsed for years, and my tomato-tini arrived frosty and savory, a sip of pure summer. The focaccia, pillowy and oil-slicked, made me close my eyes mid-chew. And the date coffee cake, warm and caramel-dark, was so good I nearly asked the server to adopt me. The service was exceptional, attentive without hovering. I left full, happy, and slightly ashamed of how quickly I ate. This is a place that respects you enough to be perfect.

Fresh oysters, killer happy hour
Beautiful space, amazing service
Great playlist, chill vibes
Frozen espresso martini standout

OTB nails the impossible: a bar that feels like a living room, a club, and a seafood shack all at once. The oysters were cold, saline, and utterly fresh, and the happy hour pricing made me feel like a genius. The frozen espresso martini, thick and bitter-sweet, was the sleeper hit of my night, and the playlist had me swaying in my seat. The space is beautiful, all warm wood and soft light, and the service genuinely made me feel seen. I’m not usually a chill person, but OTB gave me permission. I’ll be back before the ice melts.

Happy hour oyster deals
Amazing seafood tower
Killer painkiller and gimlet
Super friendly staff

El Pingüino is a happy hour sanctuary, and I mean that as the highest compliment. The oyster deals are so good I did a double take, then a triple take, then just ordered more. The seafood tower, a cathedral of ice and shellfish, made me feel like I was attending my own coronation. The painkiller and the gimlet both arrived balanced, punchy, and dangerously easy to sip. The staff, impossibly friendly, treated me like a regular on day one. I spilled a little cocktail on the bar, and they laughed with me, not at me. That’s the kind of place this is. I left drunk on joy, not just rum.

Highlights
Whiskey collection is astronomical
House-made everything, truly
Warm, cozy, inviting space
Pastrami breakfast sandwich shines
Bartender knows their spirits

Foolproof Whiskey Bar is exactly the kind of intimate, serious spot I usually distrust, but then I tasted the pastrami breakfast sandwich and my skepticism evaporated. The whiskey collection is astronomical, rows and rows of amber temptation, and the bartender knew every bottle’s story, personality, and sip. Everything is house-made, from the pickles to the syrups, and you can taste the obsession. The space is warm, cozy, and invites you to linger. I had one old fashioned, then another, and I felt my shoulders drop. This is a bar for people who want to be taken care of. I was. Completely.

Highlights
Focaccia that defies belief
Service that feels like home
Pancakes worth crossing bridges for
Crispy potatoes, perfected
Vegetarian options aplenty

Sunday In Brooklyn made me weep over focaccia, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. That bread, all crackly crust and yielding, salty interior, defies logic and dietetics alike. The pancakes, tall and custardy, are worth crossing any bridge, and I crossed the Williamsburg one with purpose. The crispy potatoes arrived jeweled with herbs and a crunch that made my teeth sing. The service felt like a warm hug from a cousin I didn’t know I had. And vegetarian options were abundant enough that my carnivorous companions stared enviously. I lingered, ate too much, and left with crumbs in my bag. No regrets.

Stunning Dia de Los Muertos decor
Attentive, caring event staff
Exceptional tequila and cocktails
Memorable DJ and percussion duo
Cool, high-energy dining space

Fandi Mata is a sensory overload in the best way. The Dia de Los Muertos decor is stunning, all marigolds and sugar skulls, and the dining space buzzes with high-energy reverence. I was there for oysters, but the tequila and cocktails, exceptional and smoky, stole my attention first. The staff was attentive and caring, almost clairvoyant. Then the DJ and percussion duo started, and the whole room shifted into a beat that felt like the city itself. I clinked my glass, shamelessly off-rhythm, and loved every second. This is a place that demands you show up fully. I did. I’m still glowing.

Cozy antidote to stormy days
Ramen broth worth bragging about
Old fashioned, perfectly balanced
Reservations essential for seating
Matcha dessert, sweetly intense

TONCHIN BROOKLYN is the cozy antidote I needed on a rainy, miserable day. The ramen broth, rich, porky, and endless, is the kind of thing you want to bottle and drink at home. I ordered an old fashioned on a whim, and it arrived perfectly balanced, a little sweet, a little bitter, exactly like my best memories. Reservations are essential, and I saw why, the room was packed with fellow pilgrims. The matcha dessert, a creamy, grassy shock, was sweetly intense and ended my meal on a poetic note. I slurped too loudly. I don’t care. I’d do it again tomorrow.

Highlights
Clams that inspire "omg"
Butcher steak, a standout
Sides that demand sharing
Sticky toffee, ridiculously good
Cozy, boisterous birthday energy

St. Anselm is where I celebrate everything, including Tuesdays. The clams came first, and they inspired an audible 'omg' that echoed across the table. The butcher steak, charred outside and pink within, is a standout that deserves its own fan club. The sides, all garlic-laced and buttery, demand sharing, but I suggest you hide a little for yourself. The sticky toffee pudding, ridiculously good, made me forget my own name. The room is cozy and boisterous, and the birthday energy from a nearby table had me clapping along. This is loud, warm, unpretentious joy on a plate. I left loud, warm, and very full.

Hands-down favorite NYC restaurant
Brunch and dinner both shine
Brown butter cinnamon roll unforgettable
Mushroom scarpinocc rich and balanced
Waitlist moves surprisingly fast

The Snail is hands-down my favorite restaurant in New York City, and I will fight anyone who disagrees, though politely. Brunch and dinner both shine, but the brown butter cinnamon roll, pillowy and oozing with caramel, is the reason I believe in small pleasures. The mushroom scarpinocc, rich and balanced, arrived like a velvety poem. The waitlist moves surprisingly fast, which feels like a small miracle given how good everything is. I’ve brought friends, family, and strangers I met at the bar. No one has ever been disappointed. I almost want to keep this place a secret. But that would be selfish. Go. Just go.

Queer-owned, cozy, welcoming space
Creative, genuinely delicious tapas
Thoughtful, well-educated service
Fair prices, satisfying portions
Charming patio and intimate vibe

Good Days is exactly what its name promises. This queer-owned, cozy, welcoming space made me feel like I’d wandered into a friend’s kitchen, if that friend was an incredible chef. The tapas are creative and genuinely delicious, each plate a tiny argument for eating slowly. The service was thoughtful and well-educated, answering my questions without a hint of impatience. The prices are fair, and the portions satisfy without punishing you. I sat on the charming patio, watched the light fade, and sipped something bright. The intimacy of it all moved me. I’m already planning my next excuse to return. This is a rare, generous place.

Skyline views, diamond-bright
Alexia makes meals memorable
Spend happily, repeat gladly
Cocktails match the scenery
Rooftop perfection for celebrations

Bar Blondeau is the kind of rooftop that makes you believe in golden hour. The skyline views are diamond-bright, and I found myself staring at the buildings like they were old friends. Alexia, the server who attended to me, made the meal unforgettable, anticipating my needs before I knew them. The cocktails, each one a perfect match for the scenery, were crisp and inventive. I spent happily, and I’ll repeat gladly, because celebrations demand this kind of backdrop. I toasted to nothing in particular, just the view and the company. It was the kind of night you want to bottle. I’m still humming its tune.
